Conor McGregor’s return date has been officially announced.
After the spectacular UFC 300 event, UFC CEO Dana White announced that McGregor will return to headline UFC 303 against Michael Chandler during International Fight Week on June 29th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Then he announced.
The bout will take place at welterweight.
It will be difficult for any event to follow UFC 300.
At UFC 301 on May 4th, Alexandre Pantoja will defend his men’s flyweight title against Steve Arceg.
Even if White grants Alex Pereira his wish and allows him to compete in his native Brazil as a heavyweight, it won’t come close to the hype we saw at UFC 300.
In June, the UFC heads to Newark for UFC 302.
The event will be held on June 1st. In the main event of UFC 302, Islam Makhachev will defend his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier.
In the co-main event, Sean Strickland will face Paulo Costa, and if Strickland wins, he has a chance to win the title.
Makhachev will face Poirier, the pound-for-pound champion and one of the most popular fighters in the sport. The Strickland vs. Costa fight also appears to be the perfect co-main event. More importantly, McGregor’s presence alone could make UFC 303 rival his UFC 300 in hype.
The former featherweight and lightweight champion headlined the promotion’s most lucrative event. The UFC needs to have a solid co-main event and another world title fight scheduled, but things look promising.
It’s International Fight Week, which has traditionally produced star-studded events. Given that McGregor vs. Chandler is the main event, we expect at least one championship fight to be added to the card, but no title.
