On the Joe Rogan Show just before the 2024 election surprise, Elon Musk took time to reveal that he is one of the top 20 Diablo 4 players in the world. Typical Musk brag? No, in fact, he was telling the truth. At the time, Musk was the 19th highest rated Diablo 4 player on the global Helltides list for speeding through Pit 150, currently the game’s most difficult challenge.
Well, that has changed.
Elon Musk has not been able to maintain his spot in the top 20 following Donald Trump’s victory. He has fallen to 36th in the world rankings, and recent reports have placed him second to Trump in phone calls with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskiy on election night and after his victory. There have long been rumors that Elon might join the Trump administration in some capacity, with frequent speculation that Musk might lead a “Department of Government Efficiency” to cut waste and hack spending. It was surfacing. It’s unclear if that was the actual plan or if Elon simply wanted to create an agency to spell out his favorite meme, “DOGE.”

When it comes to Diablo 4 rankings, perhaps he has finally run out of time to maintain them. When I first reported on his position, there were accusations that Musk must be somehow cheating by paying players or buying the perfect equipment on the black market. But none of that has ever been proven, and there’s no disputing that Musk has actually played tons of Diablo.
The entire Pit 150 list has been the subject of some degree of scandal, with many of its top members accused of utilizing exploits to increase their gear’s stats significantly above their normal capacity, but It’s not clear if this is a priority for Blizzard to address. Again, there is no evidence that Musk used these exploits.
Of course, this isn’t the most serious post here. But it’s pretty funny to see Elon Musk run four companies, have 11 kids, tweet 100 times a day, and somehow also become a world-ranked Diablo 4 player. That’s it. And just because he might actually be Donald Trump’s Oz behind the curtains, that doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t carve out time for the sheer amount of games he’s supposedly playing. Not. I’ll keep an eye on the leaderboard.
