Dungeons & Dragons Medieval fantasy stories are a major source of inspiration, and the monsters you will fight against show a lot of influence from the game’s creators. Alongside monsters such as beholders and mind flayers, there are other creatures taken directly from mythology, such as cyclops, hydras, and more.
when RuneQuest Released by Chaosium in 1978, designers Steve Perrin, Ray Turney, Steve Henderson, and Warren James decided to embrace classical mythology and set the game in a world of great heroes, bronze weapons, and earth-walking gods. The game introduced the world to Greg Stafford’s Glorantha, which embraced these concepts with a depth rarely seen in other fictional worlds.
Humble Bundle has the latest collection RuneQuest Available until July 27th. I’ve listed some of my favorite titles below, but at this price point, all of the titles included are worth a look: a chance for old fans to expand their collection, and a chance for new fans to see why so many game designers rate this game so highly. RuneQuest It has a huge impact on their game.
What is RuneQuest?
RuneQuest It was the first game to use a percentage-based system (now known as Basic Roleplaying), and variations of this system would appear in Chaosium’s other two major game lines, the Horror Investigation games. Call of Cthulhu Arthurian legend and fantasy PendragonCharacter traits are assessed as percentages, and to succeed, players must roll the number below that on two 10-sided dice that display as a percentage.
These rolls can be modified by two powerful sources: magic and emotions. Glorantha is a world where magic is ubiquitous, and characters can use runes to gain aid. Characters also have passions that they can apply to story situations, such as a Search check to find a missing sibling amplified by their passion for family.
Rune Quest Starter Set
The best way to decide if role-playing games are for you is to give them a try, and this bundle gives you some great starting points. RuneQuest Quick Start It offers pre-generated characters, short scenarios, and a handy rules overview, and players will have to commune with spirits, hunt down bandits, and finally battle fearsome monsters.
of Rune Quest Starter Set It adds a few more adventure options that can be played standalone or put together into short campaigns, and the set lets you choose from a few different characters, emphasizing that the game isn’t class or level-bound. I have the physical version of this set, and it’s very well made.
Rune Quest Core Rulebook
For those who want to dive in deeper (or keep playing after the starter materials), Rune Quest Core Rulebook It’s full of new possibilities: not only can you create unique characters, but you can also create families and communities for these characters. These people give your characters reasons to go on adventures and can also spark conflicts that your characters must resolve.
of Rune Quest Core Rulebook It adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story by focusing on the setting’s most popular gods, who actively live in the world and interact with each other in grand schemes that also drive the epic storylines that unfold at the tabletop.
Runequest Cults
The bundle contains three books that provide more detail about the Glorantha gods and the cults that worship them. Reading through these books will make students feel like they are engaging with a mythological text for the first time. The information contained within is overwhelming and fascinating.
Glorantha Sourcebook
This bundle includes several books from previous editions of the game, the best of which are: Glorantha Sourcebook It provides an in-depth look at the world, culture, and people of Glorantha. The Glorantha setting has a reputation for being rich, detailed, and fascinating, and all of that comes through in this book.
of RuneQuest Humble Bundle The event runs from now until July 27th, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to code.org.
