On Friday, Steel City Interactive announced big news regarding the sale of their new boxing game Undisputed. According to a press release, Undisputed sold a whopping 1 million copies across all platforms.
Ash Habib, Founder and CEO of Steel City Interactive said: “Our ambition remains to create a new benchmark for martial arts games, and passing this milestone shows we are on track to achieve that. It’s a great foundation to build on, and we look forward to much more from the Undisputed series.” ”
The fact that “Undisputed” sold so much in the same month that “Dragon Ball Sparking” was also released! Zero and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 are a testament to the popularity of boxing, the hunger for new versions of the sport, and the quality of the games.
Undisputed boasts strong fighter rendering, a healthy roster of 81 unique fighters across genders, and a capable career model. That said, Undisputed is far from perfect, and the development studio is well aware of that. Therefore, the press release also included the following sentence:
“Following the full release of the game, the studio is now focused on an exciting content roadmap and updates.”
Some people who have been frustrated with gameplay issues may be uncomfortable hearing news of the game’s commercial success, but this is a sign that the game will reach its potential. Great news for those looking forward to it. A sponsorship deal with Riyadh Season will likely help support the title, but the game’s financial success will also help validate its existence and provide resources to continue improving the game.
Undisputed’s early success does one of two things. It’s either the existence of Undisputed 2 is warranted, or the title garners enough attention for EA or another company to approach Steel City about a possible merger.
Rumors about a return to the Fight Night series have some validity, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility that EA is looking to buy the publishing rights and add some support to the series’ continued development.
What does Fight Night Undisputed sound like as a boxing title? This title is just speculation, but the possibility is real. It’s a concept that will take time to realize. In the meantime, Undisputed Figure’s December update is expected to be a healthy one that addresses many of the major gameplay issues.
You’ll also see a content release calendar for the next six months, which promises to be even more exciting. Unfortunately, those of us who have played the game since early access on PC and since its launch on consoles are stuck with a less-than-ideal version.
The silver lining seems to be that help is on the way.
